Week Before Surgery
· A Surgicenter representative may contact you to discuss your insurance and payment information.
· Pre-operative tests will be scheduled prior to surgery.
· One of our nurses will call you to review your medical history and discuss any medications you may be taking.
Day Before Surgery
· DO arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to SouthCrest Surgicenter and drive you home after surgery.
· DO arrange for someone to remain with you for 24 hours after surgery.
· All patients are urged to make appropriate arrangements for care of children during pre-operative and surgical visits.
· DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. This includes, but is not limited to: gum, cough drops, lozenges, hard candy, chewing tobacco, coffee, tea, or water.
· DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before surgery
Day of Surgery
· DO NOT wear contact lenses. If you must wear them, please bring a case.
· DO NOT wear jewelry, watches, or body jewelry of any type.
· DO NOT wear make-up.
· DO NOT use powders, lotions, creams, oils, or hair products. Deodorants may be used.
· DO wear comfortable clothing
· DO leave valuables at home.
· DO shower or bathe the morning of surgery or the night before surgery.
· DO bring your insurance and/or Medicare card with you.
· Dentures and hearing aids may be worn but will be removed prior to surgery.
Following Surgery
· Expect to spend approximately 60-90 minutes in the recovery area.
· YOU MUST HAVE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT DRIVE YOU HOME AND STAY WITH YOU ON THE DAY OF SURGERY.
· Nurses and physicians will answer your questions and go over your post-surgical instructions. You will receive a written copy of these instructions. Please follow them carefully.
· For 24 hours DO NOT:
o Drive any vehicle.
o Operate any machinery.
o Drink alcoholic beverages.
o Assume responsibility for the care of others.
o Take sleeping pills or tranquilizers without doctor permission.
· DO NOT take part in any strenuous activity until advised by your surgeon.
· Follow your post-operative instructions given by your surgeon.
· One of our nurses will call you the day following your surgery to make sure that you are recovering comfortably.
