James H. Beeson, Ph.D., M.D., Maternal-Fetal Medicine, joins SouthCrest Medical Group to establish a new practice, SouthCrest Perinatal Specialists. Dr. Beeson has actively practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 30 years. Most recently he served as Professor for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University Of Oklahoma College Of Medicine, Tulsa. Dr. Beeson chaired this department for 19 years and served as Director of the Residency Training Program on two occasions. In 1993, he was recognized as Outstanding OB/GYN Academic Physician of the Year and in 2000 as Outstanding Faculty Attending, OB/GYN Residents.
Dr. Beeson received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Indiana University, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Michigan State University. While Senior Scientist and Section Head at the Ames Company Division of Miles Laboratories, his product development group brought to market the first blood glucose test strip and participated in the development of the predecessor to the Glucometer™, the Ames Reflectance Meter™.
Dr. Beeson received his M.D. from the University Of Chicago Pritzker School Of Medicine. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Chicago Lying-In Hospital and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (Immunology) at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.
Dr. Beeson has special certification in Critical Care Obstetrics from Vanderbilt University; He has NTQR certification for Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone screening. He has published numerous articles and other technical papers, and his current research interests include amniotic fluid chemistry, diabetes in pregnancy, maternal-fetal pharmacokinetics and ultrasound applications in obstetrics.
He is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, American Association of Immunologists, Tulsa Obstetrical & Gynecological Society, a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and served as an Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Beeson is a founder of the Tulsa Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE) and he serves on the Board of Directors for the Eastern Oklahoma Division of the March of Dimes.
He was recognized as Outstanding Program Director for District VII from the Junior Fellows of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1996. He was named Volunteer of the Year in 1996 by March of Dimes. He is a Diplomate in the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and their Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
