CardiacRehabilitationDepartment

Cardiac Rehabilitation is the process by which patients with cardiac disease, in partnership with a multi-disciplinary team of health care professional, are encouraged and supported to achieve and maintain optimal physical and psychosocial health.

A structured Cardiac Rehabilitation program is shown to:

  • Reduce mortality by 20 - 25%
  • Reduce hospital re-admission
  • Reduce re-infarction
  • Improve quality of life

Patients referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation department with proven documentation of coronary heart disease and/or cardiac related conditions are as follows:

  • MI
  • CABG
  • Valve surgery
  • Stable angina
  • PTCA/Stent

SouthCrest offers a progressive Cardiac Rehab program.  Highly qualified Exercise Physiologist and Registered Nurses customize an individualized exercise prescription based on medical history and physical ability.   Weekly education classes are given on nutrition, cardiac medication, stress management, “getting in touch with your heart” and other cardiac related classes.

Patients exercise 3 times weekly for 6 to 12 weeks.  The exercise sessions are normally 45 minutes.  Hours for Cardiac Rehab are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Cardiac Rehab is covered under Medicare and most private insurers.  SouthCrest Hospital offers the “Heart Smart Program” for private pay patients.

After successful completion of the Cardiac Rehab program, you will be referred to SouthCrest Hospital’s Wellness Center to continue your exercise regimen at a discounted price.
